As you might expect, GB has named a close to first choice squad for the second round of the World Cup to take place in London on December 5-7.
The men’s sprint squad is unchanged from the first round in Mexico and we’ll get to see how Hindes, Kenny, Skinner and possibly Crampton go at sea-level. It’s a similar story for the girls, with Varnish, Williamson and Khan the three selected. The women’s sprints were perhaps the weakest area in Guadalajara so they will be looking to rebound on home boards.
For the endurance events, the men’s team features old stager Ed Clancy, fellow stalwarts Steve Burke and Andy Tennant and young guns Jon Dibben, Mark Christian and Owain Doull. There’s no sign of Sam Harrison, Cyclostats is unsure whether he is injured, but time may be running out for the Welshman if he hopes to secure a spot for Rio.
As for the women, it’s back to full-strength with World champ Jo Rowsell back on board and joining Laura Trott, Kate Archibald, Eleanor Barker and Ciarra Horne. Amy Roberts, who filled in so admirably in Mexico misses out. Looking at the GB pursuit rankings, Amy probably needs to find 5-6 seconds to consistently challenge the incumbents.
Cyclostats has yet to see the program for London but hopes that individual pursuits and TTs are part of the package. If the men’s pursuit features, Andy Tennant might be expected to have a serious crack at the magical 4:20 barrier that just five Bits have managed to date.
