A bit late with this one, but the two GB silvers in the Team Pursuits ought to be regarded as two decent performances. The men’s result was probably the better given that the expectation levels were lower. Clancy, Burke, Tennant and Doull came within inches of winning gold, just edged out by a very good New Zealand squad. With hitters like Wiggins and Kennaugh potetnially to return, GB’s men look in good shape for Rio.
The women will be a little more concerned given that they were at full strength and that the Aussies left out the lady who would become individual pursuit World Champ a day later. But clearly, the Aussies were all firing on all cylinders while it seems that one or two of the Brits – particularly Jo Rowsell – were a little off the pace. It should still be considered a shock if GB don’t step onto the top step of the podium when the Olympics roll around.
